Every so often I have a sewing disaster. It’s not that I’m a fan so much, it’s just that they’re unavoidable and it’s best to not get too upset about them. The moral of this story is that you’re not supposed to sew your finger with a sewing machine. It’s not a very good moral. Perhaps it’s more a tale of sewing machine operators beware.
This one was particularly nasty and was rivalled only by my first horrific disaster, the infamous accidental sewing of a panel of lace to my face.
One afternoon a few weeks ago, I was trying to sew some bulky plastic outdoor covers together when I hastily moved the plastic as it was going through the machine. My sticky finger stayed temporarily glued to the plastic as it was dragged into the way of the machine’s needle. Oops. Too late. Something bad’s happened. I looked at it stunned. I’d had a little accident. The needle had snapped off and had gone right through the tip of my left middle finger.
I managed to pull the needle out with a pair of heat treated tweezers. Thankfully I’d only changed the sewing needle the day before so it was very sharp and left a clean puncture.
Three weeks later I think I can safely say that my finger is healed on the outside. I’m not sure what’s going on on the inside. There is a bit of strange nerve sensation but I’m hoping that might deaden a bit with time. Unfortunately I’m a weird nervy person so any healed wound always gives me the shivers if touched, even if there’s nothing left to see there.
I recorded a bit of video playing my single “The Hidden Stairwell” while my finger was healing so I don’t think there’s too much damage there.

Yowch, I hate when stuff like that happens!
I cut my right middle finger to the bone at the second phalange once. To this day I can’t feel half of the tip, and occasionally I’ll drop my bow if I’m not very careful transitioning between pizz and arco!

Oh dear! That’s a very nasty accident. I’ve been known to drop (throw) my bow in moments of excitement and that’s without a numb finger. Stand near me at your own peril. Tee hee! Looks like you and I will have to be more careful in future. We need our fingers! So nice that you visited Elizabeth. 🌻💛
