Two months after the release of the original music cello playing Laceface’s first Hodgepodge, Hodgepodge II arrives with five new tracks. This one’s a real hodgepodge of sonics ranging from the more traditional cello sound in “Trio for One” to the very heavy rock riff driven “I Come In Pieces”. She does come in pieces by the way, and has to put herself back together every so often, one dislocated joint at a time. Laceface’s “Sunflowers” contains a short but hypnotic lightning finger homage to Buckethead and a high reaching heart stirring melody. “Not Funk Fish” sees Laceface using a pic to play a bluesy groove on her electric cello, over which she weaves and spins her melody like a school of fish playing in the sunshine filled ocean waters. Lastly, “The Magic Bow” is designed to get you off your feet and live out all your fantasies of pretending you’re a rhythmic gymnast.
