6 Dec 2016 – At last it’s here. Two months after the release of the original music cello playing Laceface’s first Hodgepodge, Hodgepodge II arrives with five new tracks. This one’s a real hodgepodge of sonics ranging from the more traditional cello sound in “Trio for One” to the very heavy rock riff driven “I Come In Pieces”. She does come in pieces by the way, and has to put herself back together every so often, one dislocated joint at a time. Laceface’s “Sunflowers” contains a short but hypnotic lightning finger homage to her hero Buckethead and a high reaching heart stirring melody. “Not Funk Fish” sees Laceface using a pic to play a bluesy groove on her electric cello, over which she weaves and spins her melody like a school of fish playing in the sunshine filled ocean waters. Lastly, “The Magic Bow” is designed to get you off your feet and live out all your fantasies of pretending you’re a rhythmic gymnast.
Laceface has used both her 100+ year old cello and her Yamaha SVC50 on Hodgepodge II, just as she did on the last one. This time she’s also brought in a pair of new DigiTech pedals. You can hear how much fun she’s had with her Whammy DT and thanks https://www.soundseasy.com.au for their great customer service and the super deal she got on both. Actually, Laceface never thought she’d use the Drop Tune feature of her Whammy, but at the end of the arpeggio solo in “I Come In Pieces”, there’s a big fat Bb below the low C string that proved her wrong. Laceface hears the word Whammy and she thinks “Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”.
Hodgepodge II is at Laceface’s Bandcamp right now. https://laceface.bandcamp.com/releases
