Sydney, Australia. Avant garde cellist Laceface is pleased to announce the release of her latest single ‘What Were You Doing When The Ship Went Down?’ available at laceface.bandcamp.com from 22 October 2020 to be followed on mainstream services later.
‘What Were You Doing When The Ship Went Down’ (an Ode to 2020) is a riff fest of metal cello instrumental, which Laceface believes to be the heaviest cello song ever released. The song begins with a faint sea chanty to the creaking sounds of a sailing ship on the open ocean. The main theme of foreboding trills slams in to break the tranquil scene. Laceface suggests that ‘What Were You Doing When The Ship Went Down’ is allegory to the dystopian world and the ship of fools that has presented itself in 2020. The musical metaphor of the sinking ship continues with a slow downward glissando. The piercingly high and hollow harmonic signifies the ‘abandon ship’ whistle as the watery harmonics continue below the surface until the last breath.
The artwork is based on Omnia Vanitas by William Dyce 1848.
Laceface will begin recording a new album inspired by Vanitas artwork in October 2020.
Laceface is not a stranger to real life horror having accidentally sewn a panel of lace to her face with her old Singer treadle sewing machine while making doll clothes as a child. She has released 11 short albums including her not metal but iron age, Bog Bodies of 2019. All releases (except her expired birthday song written for the guitarist Buckethead) are available at her bandcamp site.

🌻💛 Thank you for your msg Amanda.I had planned on doing a proper promo for this single but it was taking so long to get my promo material together that I decided to just put it out in the usual low key way. 🤪 Maybe next time. 💛🌻
