Frolics

(26 feb 2020. I wrote this a few weeks ago but forgot to publish it.)

It was an eventful and productive day today. I made some alterations on a new summer top I’m making to wear while I play my cello. The fabric is like a raw silk but I’m not exactly sure what it is as I picked it up as an unmarked remnant for a bargain before my favourite fabric shop closed shop to build their online store. In the burn test, it smelled like hair and paper, so I guess it has some silk in it and perhaps cotton. It’s lovely and cool for this very hot summer and I’ve trimmed it with lots of lace. (edit 26 Feb 2020. You can see it in all my latest photos for Hodgepodge VII).

Later in the afternoon once the heat of the day had subsided somewhat I went for a frolic to my local salt marsh. There I found all sorts of birds like a tern, a plover, some superb blue fairy wrens and I saw a plethora of fish as I passed over the single lane bridge. One big mullet even jumped out and showed me its beautiful silvery side shimmer. So lovely and cheery. Along the way I listened to the Coming Alive Podcast with Buckethead hosted by Barry Michels and Phil Stutz. That podcast is a fascinating insight into Buckethead, his gentleness is palpable. The Tools discussed within by the hosts are very helpful to a rather sensitive musician such as me, and I reordered a few things in my head thanks to their suggestions. https://www.thetoolsbook.com/podcast

Later this evening I thought I’d revisit my new Hodgepodge that’s in the works. It’s number 7! My 2019 was a very difficult one, where I and a kindred spirit battled two hideous creatures from the quagmire. It drained me of my energy and I almost lost my inner fire but we were victorious by year’s end. What made me particularly sad about all of this was that I couldn’t spend any time trying to promote my Bog Bodies release of 2019. There was a great deal of love poured into Bog Bodies and sadly it seems to have landed dead in the bog along with all the other forgotten souls.

Anyway, I needed the first few weeks of January to recover but it looks like 2020 might allow my kindred swamp hag and me to get back to living our normal lives for a while.

My new Hodgepodge fills my heart with joys and thrills and while I’d be very happy if you like it, it won’t worry me too much if you don’t.

Lots of love,

Laceface 💛🌻

Don’t forget bog bodies are often discovered by the world when least expected! They don’t lie unforgotten forever. All the best with the new Hodgepodge.xx

You’re very sweet. There’s something strangely comforting thinking about my music lying suspended (largely) undiscovered across aeons. 💛 I’ll do my best with Hodgepodge VII and it doesn’t matter really. Each bit of music I release is like a lovely new blade of grass or flower in my garden that I get to enjoy after all the tending. 💛 🌻 💛
